The Coalition Against Socialized Medicine’s Statement on the “Build Back Better” Drug Price-fixing Scheme

ALEXANDRIA, VA,‪ December 16, 2021 – The Coalition Against Socialized Medicine (CASM), a broad coalition of leading conservative and free-market groups such as the Conservative Political Action Coalition (CPAC), Heritage Action, FreedomWorks, the National Taxpayers Union, Club for Growth, Citizens Against Government Waste, American Commitment, and the Committee to Unleash Prosperity, has issued the following statement on Congressional Democrats’ latest drug price setting plan, attributable to Conservative Political Action Coalition Chairman Matt Schlapp:

“Yet again, the socialist Democrats are attempting to jam price controls down America’s throat in their partisan, un-American tax-and-spend entitlement bill. The so-called “Build Back Better” Act is a full-on socialist wish list. But among its many egregious provisions, the radical drug price-fixing scheme included within it is as damaging as the massive amount of debt it would saddle on American taxpayers for generations. As we have seen everywhere they have been attempted, price controls inevitably lead to access restrictions on medicines and care, and to reduced innovation—denying America’s patients the treatments and cures of tomorrow.

“This legislation moves our country one step closer to towards socialism and our healthcare towards socialized medicine. True to form, the socialist Democrats are attempting to jam this through in a hyper-partisan manner—and they will own the consequences if they succeed. For the sake of our country, we must fight to ensure that they do not.”
