Coalition Against Socialized Medicine Statement on Senate Vote on Drug Price Controls in Reconciliation Bill
ALEXANDRIA, VA, August 9, 2022 – The Coalition Against Socialized Medicine (CASM), a broad coalition of leading conservative groups such as the Conservative Political Action Coalition (CPAC), Heritage Action, FreedomWorks, the National Taxpayers Union, Club for Growth, Citizens Against Government Waste, American Commitment, and the Committee to Unleash Prosperity, has issued the following statement on Senate Democrats’ latest drug price setting agreement, attributable to Jack Kalavritinos, CPAC’s Executive Director, Coalition Against Socialized Medicine.
“In a massive hit to Americans and future innovation, Senate Democrats single-handedly diminished access to the newest treatments and cures by voting to insert new government price-setting measures in Medicare. Make no mistake, this is not negotiation. Price-setting punishable by an excise tax penalty of up to 95% percent means that many pharmaceutical companies will have to pull drugs out of the market. Installing a new mechanism that would have the government determine the price of drugs will have resounding consequences on research and development.”
“This legislation now goes to the House for a vote. Any Representative that votes for this bill is supporting socialist-style policies that will kill the cures of tomorrow.”
