Coalition Against Socialized Medicine Statement on Nancy Pelosi’s Drug Pricing Legislation

ALEXANDRIA, VA, ‪September 19, 2019 – The Coalition Against Socialized Medicine (CASM), a broad coalition of leading conservative and free-market groups such as the American Conservative Union, Heritage Action, FreedomWorks, the National Taxpayers Union, Club for Growth, Citizens Against Government Waste, American Commitment, and the Committee to Unleash Prosperity, has issued the following statement on Speaker Pelosi’s draft drug pricing legislation attributable to CASM Executive Director Marc Palazzo (mpalazzo@conservative.org):

            “The legislation Speaker Pelosi released today is every bit the far-left San Francisco liberal dream that we expected. Pelosi’s proposal is nothing more than a down payment on a full-scale government takeover of health care and the eventual imposition of socialized medicine in America. It is a socialist wish list of price controls, inflation caps, forced arbitration with government, and crushing new taxes on the innovators that create the treatments and cures of tomorrow. We do not need to speculate about the effects of price controls. We need only look abroad. When unelected bureaucrats set market-distorting prices as Speaker Pelosi proposes, patients, taxpayers, and innovation suffer. They lead to access restrictions for patients and medical decisions made by unelected bureaucrats, higher costs to the taxpayer, and are a death-knell for innovation. Unfortunately it appears that the tools that the likes of Nancy Pelosi, AOC, and Bernie Sanders want to use to remake America’s drug pricing system are the hammer and sickle.”
