Coalition Against Socialized Medicine Statement on House Ways & Means Hearing with Hospital CEOs

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: ALEXANDRIA, VA, April 29, 2026 – The Coalition Against Socialized Medicine (CASM), a broad coalition of leading conservative groups, has issued the following statement on this week’s House Ways and Means Committee hearing with the nation’s largest hospital CEOs and the need to end abuse in the 340B program.

“CASM thanks the House Ways and Means Committee for holding yesterday’s hearing with the nation’s largest hospital CEOs. Lawmakers rightly examined how the 340B program has been abused to generate profits for large, vertically integrated 340B hospital systems at the expense of the very patients it was intended to serve.

“Since 2010, annual 340B drug purchases have grown to more than $66 billion, driven overwhelmingly by large health conglomerates, yet savings are still not reaching patients. Vertical integration has allowed these systems to retain 340B discounts while marking up drug prices by as much as 72%, with little oversight.

“As a result, the program functions as a transfer of wealth from drug manufacturers to integrated health conglomerates, with patients footing the bill. It is imperative that Congress continues efforts to close the loopholes enabling this abuse and restore the 340B program to its original intent.”
