Coalition Against Socialized Medicine Statement on Nancy Pelosi’s Deal with Progressives on H.R. 3

ALEXANDRIA, VA, ‪December 11, 2019 – The Coalition Against Socialized Medicine (CASM), a broad coalition of leading conservative and free-market groups such as the American Conservative Union, Heritage Action, FreedomWorks, the National Taxpayers Union, Club for Growth, Citizens Against Government Waste, American Commitment, and the Committee to Unleash Prosperity, has issued the following statement on Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s brokered H.R. 3 deal with progressive Democrats attributable to CASM Executive Director Marc Palazzo (mpalazzo@conservative.org):

“Speaker Nancy “if you like your plan you can keep it” Pelosi managed to make her socialist price control bill, H.R. 3, even more extreme and dangerous last night in a deal between the two wings of the modern Democratic party: the far left and the extreme left. The Pelosi Plan is a trojan-horse for socialism, now giving government bureaucrats even more power to set prices over an expanded set of medicines that patients depend on. These kinds of price control schemes have been tried already by socialist countries, and unfortunately they will have the same devastating impacts on patients and innovation here in America that they have abroad. It is tragic to see the Democratic party apparently looking to countries like Cuba and Venezuela for policy mentorship rather than the free market, which has been an engine of medical innovation and blessed Americans with the most cutting-edge treatments on earth.”
