Coalition Against Socialized Medicine Statement on Nancy Pelosi’s Drug Pricing Legislation

ALEXANDRIA, VA,‪September 10, 2019 – The Coalition Against Socialized Medicine (CASM), a broad coalition of leading conservative and free-market groups such as the American Conservative Union, Heritage Action, FreedomWorks, the National Taxpayers Union, Club for Growth, Citizens Against Government Waste, American Commitment, and the Committee to Unleash Prosperity, has issued the following statement on Speaker Pelosi’s draft drug pricing legislation attributable to CASM Executive Director Marc Palazzo (mpalazzo@conservative.org):

            “The draft legislation we have seen today is a far-left San Francisco liberal’s dream. Speaker Pelosi’s proposal is nothing more than a down payment on a full-scale government takeover of health care and the imposition of socialized medicine in America. We have seen the effects of price control schemes abroad. When unelected bureaucrats set market-distorting prices as Speaker Pelosi proposes, patients, taxpayers, and innovation suffer. They lead to access restrictions for patients and medical decisions made by unelected bureaucrats, higher costs to the taxpayer, and are a death-knell for innovation. Socialized medicine may sound good to Bernie Sanders, AOC, and Nancy Pelosi, but its true costs don’t sound so good to patients, taxpayers – or voters.”
