Coalition Against Socialized Medicine Statement on President Biden’s Partisan State of the Union Address
ALEXANDRIA, VA, March 8, 2024 – The Coalition Against Socialized Medicine (CASM), a broad coalition of leading conservative groups including the Conservative Political Action Coalition (CPAC), Heritage Action, FreedomWorks, the National Taxpayers Union, Club for Growth, Citizens Against Government Waste, American Commitment, and the Committee to Unleash Prosperity, has issued the following statement on President Biden’s partisan State of the Union address. This statement is attributable to Jack Kalavritinos, CPAC’s Executive Director of the Coalition Against Socialized Medicine.
“President Biden’s State of the Union address was a far-left socialist wish list and served as a chilling reminder of how far the United States has strayed from the limited-government, free-enterprise values on which our nation was founded. Instead of emphasizing and embracing the accomplishments of our citizens, President Biden embodied the left’s resentment of the hard work, investment, and risk that has led to America’s success and innovation. During his speech, he touted the ways his administration has expanded government control in numerous critical sectors.
“Most notably to CASM, he bragged about the socialist drug price “negotiation” program and advocated for its expansion to 500 drugs over the next decade. These socialist price controls will do nothing but reduce patients’ access and disincentivize critical R&D. Furthermore, they fail to address the actual issue with our healthcare system: the big insurer-PBMs that are in a symbiotic financial and political partnership with leftist politicians.
“This year’s State of the Union address lays bare that Biden and his fellow Democrats have no intention of slowing down on their mission to radically socialize medicine in America. The so-called “Inflation Reduction Act” – which would be more aptly dubbed the “Innovation Reduction Act” – is only the beginning of the far-left’s big-government intrusion into the private sector, putting government power first, and patients last. Make no mistake: this is a dire warning for what is to come under four more years of Democratic leadership.”
