Coalition Against Socialized Medicine Statement on the Introduction of the Ensuring Pathways to Innovative Cures (EPIC) Act in the Senate
ALEXANDRIA, VA, March 5, 2025 – The Coalition Against Socialized Medicine (CASM), a broad coalition of leading conservative groups, has issued the following statement on the introduction of the Ensuring Pathways to Innovative Cures (EPIC) Act in the Senate.
“The Coalition Against Socialized Medicine (CASM) thanks Senators Thom Tillis (R-NC), Ted Budd (R-NC), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), James Lankford (R-OK), and Steve Daines (R-MT) for introducing the Ensuring Pathways to Innovative Cures (EPIC) Act in the Senate today. We are thrilled to see lawmakers in both chambers working to protect the free market, promote innovation, and undo the catastrophic impacts of the Biden Administration’s Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).
“Biden’s “Pill Penalty,” among the IRA drug price controls that need to be undone retroactively, draws unnecessary distinctions that disincentivize and discourage private sector research investments away from a critical form of medication: small-molecule drugs. This infringement on the free market enables Democratic efforts to push our nation toward socialism across sectors. Biden’s price controls must be eradicated, or they will continue to inhibit essential medical advancements while infecting other sectors of our economy with socialist principles. Congress must eliminate the Biden Pill Penalty by passing the EPIC Act to safeguard our nation’s medical innovation pipeline.
“Due to the nature of the issue and the bicameral support, CASM hopes to see the EPIC Act included in the budget reconciliation to eliminate the devastation the Biden Pill Penalty has caused. Lawmakers must support this legislation in order to protect American patients and taxpayers from harmful government overreach.”
