Coalition Against Socialized Medicine Statement on the Re-Introduction of the Ensuring Pathways to Innovative Cures (EPIC) Act

ALEXANDRIA, VA, February 25, 2025 – The Coalition Against Socialized Medicine (CASM), a broad coalition of leading conservative groups, has issued the following statement on the re-introduction of the Ensuring Pathways to Innovative Cures (EPIC) Act.

“The Coalition Against Socialized Medicine (CASM) thanks Representatives Greg Murphy, M.D., Don Davis, and Richard Hudson for re-introducing the Ensuring Pathways to Innovative Cures (EPIC) Act. As a coalition comprised of conservative and free-market organizations, CASM is thrilled to see lawmakers working to undo the negative impacts of the disastrous Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) on the healthcare market.

“Among the IRA’s disastrous price controls that should be scrapped retroactively, the Biden “Pill Penalty” needlessly impinges on the free market, making an arbitrary and unnecessary distinction that drives private sector R&D investments away from one critical type of medication—small-molecule pills. As with all instances of central economic planning across sectors, Biden’s IRA price controls will cause America’s thriving medical innovation pipeline to dry up. The EPIC Act is a vital step in protecting America’s innovation leadership on the world stage.

“Given the urgency of this issue, CASM hopes to see the EPIC Act included in budget reconciliation to fix the Biden Pill Penalty and protect American patients and taxpayers from government encroachment in this critical industry.”
