Coalition Against Socialized Medicine Statement on the Ways and Means Committee and Energy and Commerce Committee Hearings with Big Insurance Executives

ALEXANDRIA, VA, January 22, 2026 – The Coalition Against Socialized Medicine (CASM), a broad coalition of leading conservative groups, has issued the following statement on today’s Ways and Means Committee and Energy and Commerce Committee hearings with big insurance executives.

“The Coalition Against Socialized Medicine (CASM) is pleased to see lawmakers taking on multi-billion-dollar anticompetitive insurance conglomerates at today’s congressional hearings. For too long, these healthcare giants have employed perverse tactics to drive up costs and restrict access to care, boosting their profits while America’s taxpayers foot the bill.

“New polling shows that a majority of voters blame big insurers for high healthcare costs, with 66% agreeing the rising cost of insurance is their greatest healthcare concern. This is no surprise, given that the horizontally and vertically integrated market is a breeding ground for price gouging. Not only do the largest 10 insurance companies control the majority of the market, but the pharmacy benefit manager (PBMs) middlemen operated by the “Big Three” insurance companies also control 80% of the prescription drug market. They’ve used that dominance to mark up specialty generic drugs by more than 1000% and pocket savings meant for patients.

“Lawmakers are right to focus on big insurers as they seek to rein in the skyrocketing cost of American healthcare. They’ve got the right target. Now, Congress must enact meaningful reform to restore a functioning healthcare free market that will drive prices downward.”
