Coalition Against Socialized Medicine Urges Congress to Reject Implementing the “Most Favored Nation” (MFN) Policy for Medicaid in Upcoming Reconciliation Package
ALEXANDRIA, VA, May 3, 2025 – The Coalition Against Socialized Medicine (CASM), a broad coalition of leading conservative groups, including the Conservative Political Action Coalition (CPAC), Heritage Action, the National Taxpayers Union, Club for Growth, Citizens Against Government Waste, and American Commitment, has issued the following statement urging Congress to oppose inclusion of the “most favored nation” (MFN) policy for Medicaid in reconciliation legislation.
“The Coalition Against Socialized Medicine (CASM) strongly urges Congress to oppose the inclusion of MFN pricing of Medicaid drugs in the upcoming reconciliation package. The use of this policy will leave manufacturers and innovators with no choice but to pull their treatments from the program—decreasing access for the patients most in need.
“The U.S. is the global leader in pharmaceutical innovation. To maintain this leadership, we must not tie Medicaid’s drug prices to those of foreign nations that have far worse health outcomes than the United States. Americans have already witnessed the devastating effects of the Inflation Reduction Act’s (IRA) price controls, and patients, taxpayers, and innovators alike cannot afford another hit to the healthcare free market.
“If Members of Congress want to prioritize our healthcare sector, foster competition, and encourage innovation, they should oppose importing foreign price controls into Medicaid in reconciliation and instead prioritize reining in the big health insurance-PBM conglomerates responsible for manipulating America’s drug pricing system. Adopting the MFN model is not a viable solution to lowering drug prices for American taxpayers and patients.”
