Coalition Against Socialized Medicine Urges Members of Congress to Oppose the 340B PATIENTS Act

ALEXANDRIA, VA, August 4, 2025 – The Coalition Against Socialized Medicine (CASM), a broad coalition of leading conservative groups, has issued the following statement expressing opposition to the 340B PATIENTS Act.

“The Coalition Against Socialized Medicine (CASM) strongly opposes the recently reintroduced 340B PATIENTS Act, which would codify pharmacy participation in the 340B program without addressing the urgent need for comprehensive reform in the once valuable program. As a coalition of free-market organizations, we are committed to promoting competition and opposing unnecessary government overreach. This legislation will raise costs for private employers and taxpayers while empowering big pharmacy chains and their affiliated Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBM) to exploit the system and pad their profits.

“The 340B PATIENTS Act expands a broken hospital program that increases healthcare costs without delivering access or affordability for patients. Rather than implementing meaningful reform, this legislation deepens government involvement and prioritizes big pharmacies and PBMs over patients. Expanding this bloated program will only increase the burden on taxpayers.

“We urge Congress to carefully consider these negative consequences and work instead to restore the 340B program to its original mission as a targeted safety-net program. To effectively lower prices, Congress should focus on fostering competition, innovation, and transparency, not doubling down on a system that distorts drug pricing and rewards special interests.”
